#UberTrack of the Week!

SKYROQ NATION - Guns & Tanks

This weeks #UberTrack comes from Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal, from a fresh 2 man group named SKYROQ Nation. These 2 guys, named Tuko and Arnold bring a new, crisp sound to the hip hop industry. Their fusion of techno and hip hop is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual, old sound of South African hip hop. Signed to JR's label, these boys seem to have their heads on right and are set to have a bright future ahead of them.

Guns & Tanks is their new single, released November 2012 and is our #UberTrack of the week. The video is shot at a house party that gives Project X a run for its money. Well, besides the burning of houses, trashing of the neighbourhood and smashing cars, its a pretty sick party. With models, tattooed bad boys and enough drink to get a fully grown elephant crunk, its definitely a video you gotta check out.

#UberTrack of the Week

This week's #UberTrack is brought to us by a trio of Hip Hop Champs! DJ Switch collabs with George Avakian and Pro to bring us this smasher "You Can Get It!" The video features a couple of beautiful models showing what they can do, from the perfect manicure to some fresh dance moves and a few celebrity appearances by Kuli Roberts, Twins On Decks, Shugasmakx and Mika Stephano. There's a splash of humor playing on the controversial 'Skhotanes' of SA's youth, with DJ Switch and George Avakian battling in the townships. It puts a funny twist on the all too serious matter and gets a thumbs up in our books.

As for the song itself, it has a crazy beat that makes you wanna get up and dougie with an addictive hook that'll get stuck in your head in a good way and you won't be in a hurry to get rid of it. So check out the video and see why it's our #UberTrack of the Week!

Top 10 Worst Pick up lines EVER!!!

Okay guys, this is a lil something to help your game out a lil and something almost every lady is probably praying for. This a list of things that should never come out your mouth!! If it ever does and it works, you better be a male model or Bill Gates son. Ladies, you can thank us later.

Girl, are you wearing space pants coz your ass is out of this world. - Never make any sort of reference to a womens weight, EVER!
You remind me so much of my pinky toe... sometime later tonight i'll probably bang you on the coffee table - This is just super inappropriate. Like why would you even?

Nice legs, what time do they open? - If you don't get beaten for this line, consider it a blessing.

Hey, can i buy you a drink or do you just want the money? - I won't even lie, i'd love to see someone use this in real life, but i gotta have my video camera!

Do you come here often? - There's a special place, along with Hitler and Murphy (Murphy's Law) reserved for people who confidently use this line.

Hey, did we go to different schools together? - The only way this will work is if you use it on the not so intelligent girl, but it shouldn't be used, period.

If i told you you had a great body, would you hold it against me? - Any opening line that has a sexual inuendo, stay away!! First impressions are the one so make it count!

I'd look good on you. - Another one, why can't you just say she looks pretty or smells good... those work!!

Excuse me, do you have a mirror in your pants, coz i can see myself in them. - I'd love to meet the men that have used this line, just i can smack them on behalf of the entire male race.

If I could rearrange the alphabet i'd put U and I together. -
If you're under the age of 10, by all means use this line. If not, you deserve 25-life!!

There you go ladies and gents, just a lil something to prevent utter embarrassement and disaster, so guys please, take our advice and KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid!!!

Ryan The DJ

  • Name: Ryan Nair
  • Age: 25
  • Occupaton: DJ
  • Brands: 5fm

This weeks Artist Profile, we caught up with this years 5fm Ultimix winner and had a chat with him to see where he's at and how winning the Ultimix competition has changed his life.

  • Where were you born, where did you grow up
Born and raised in Durban, Kzn
  • When did your love for music start?
My love for music all began as a kid, I come from a musical family where both of my parents were members of a band in the early 80s. Growing up, I watched many music shows like "Studio mix, vibe, bassiq, sprite rush hour..etc" and listened to the radio a lot.
  • Favorite genre of music do you play?
Just to make it clear i am an open format dj so I play everything from Hip Hop, Rnb, House, Trap n a bit of 80s but my favorite genre to play is Hip Hop.
  • Who are your role models in the music industry? Artists and Djs
In the South African dj industry i look up to and respect guys like Dj Ready D and Dj Fresh simply because these guys are extremely talented, have been in the scene for a while and are still keeping things fresh. Internationally my influences are the likes of Dj Jazzy Jeff, Vice, Craze, A-Trak and the late and great Dj A.M.
  • What's the highlight of your career so far?
I've been blessed enough to have the chance to open for many international artists and other high profile djs as well as have a few t.v appearances but i think one of the biggest highlights for me was playing at the h2o party in Durban this year, the crowd was absolutely crazy and had a great vibe and appreciation for good music.
  • Tell us about The Ultimix? How has that changed things for you and where would you like to be in 5 years?
It was an absolute dream come true winning the ultimix competition! I had originally entered last year but sent my submission mix too late so it wasn't received, i had so much confidence in that mix that i sent it again this year and yeah...the rest is history i guess. Having the opportunity to play on the ultimix has been great, knowing that 5fm is a national station and that I'm reaching a broad audience has really boosted my confidence levels in what i do and off course done some great things for me career wise. Sky is the limit for me and I'm hoping for the best in the next 5 years, i'd like to say that i see myself getting into radio, production, record labels and signing new artists because these are things i would definitely enjoy doing since its keeping within my industry.
  • What can fans expect from Ryan the DJ in the near future?
Theres a lot in the pipeline, one of which is a cd release...so yup, big things coming.

There you go ladies and gentlemen, you've heard it from the man himself. He had a dream, went out and achieved it, not even the first time but he didn't quit. So if he can do it, what's stopping us?

Twins On Decks

  • Names: Darren and Ryan Rigney
  • Age: 23
  • Occupation: DJ/Radio presenters/Producer
  • Brands: TransAfrica Radio
Darren and Ryan Rigney are a set of identical twins who together form the Twins On Decks. This 23 year old dynamic duo hail from Cape Town and now reside in the West Rand of Johannesburg in Florida. They first realised their love for music in High School and started their epic collection of some of the sickest tracks to ever hit this planet. This quickly grew when they started mixing songs together and grew this talent into their DJ profession. They're masters at mixing house and this has led them to be amoungst the top DJ's in SA.
They rank people like DJ Fresh and Euphonik as a few of their role models in the industry for turning this industry into a business and have hopes that one day they'll be as relevent and as impactive as them one day.
Triple threat is a trio formed by Twins On Decks and Dj Warras of YFM. They met years ago and Warras actually taught them to play. They then used to get booked on the same line-up a lot and soon enough they started throwing events and they got booked at Triple Threat. Their events have grown rapidly with a great following and they definitely count their lucky stars.
So what's next for the Twins On Decks you ask?
Well they might have some plans to collaborate with a few artists or dj's, who knows??
Don't wanna let the cat out the bag just yet so keep an eye on these two.

#UberTrack Of the Week

Mi Casa - La Vida

Mi Casa are a three part band with the lead singer and guitarist JSomething, the producer and pianist, Dr. Duda and finally Mo-T, the trumpeter. Their first single out was "These Streets" which put them on the map and in the public eye as a hot new group.  Then came their second single "Heavenly Sent" which shot straight to the top of most music and video charts. It was then they got nominations at the SAMA's for the following catagories: "Best Dance Album", "Album of the Year", "Group of the Year", "Newcomer of the Year" and "Record of the Year."

Their third single "La Vida" is our #UberTrack of the week because it has an exotic feel to it with Portuguese lyrics. "La Vida" meaning 'Life' is a love song about Dr. Duda, the bands producer, meeting a special woman online and she invites the band to perform in Rio de Janiro, Brazil. The video is a 3D animated flick which follows the bands journey to Brazil. The chorus goes: ‘life’s so beautiful it makes you cry’ and Dr.Duda shows Maria just how beautiful life is through music.' Its an awesome track and you should get on that. We can't wait to see what else Mi Casa has in store for us in the near future!

Top Shots and Drinks of the Week!!!

So unfortunately we didn't have any volunteers who were dumb enouch to take any flaming shots but the time will come when that one idiot comes along and trust us, we'll be first on the scene to capture every detail. None the less, here's a list of the top consumed alcohols in the country. No beers or ciders though...
  1. Caramel Vodka: Lovoka, Cruz and Carvo
  2. Tequila: Olmeca and Jose Cuervo
  3. Jagerbombs: Jagermeister and Redbull
  4. Patron: Coffee and Pure Tequila
  5. Absinthe: Only for the brave!!!!
Now let's move on to the Top 5 Drinks with mixers:
  1. Brandy and Cola: More for the common crowd
  2. Rum and Cola: Got a lil Captain in you?
  3. Vodka and Cranberry: For those with a more civilized pallet
  4. Jameson and Lemonade: Now we move on to the more mature drink
  5. Whiskey on the rocks: For the slow sipper who appreciates his liquor.
Now you can tell where you're a statistic and you can now decide where you're gonna change your taste in alcohol or what you're gonna add to your list. We'll update this list as soon as it has a major change, but for now seems it's gonna be this way for a while. Enjoy!

Rasheed Wallace Blue Suede Hi Tops

The new Rasheed Wallace Nike Air Force ones were spotted on the man himself. He recently traded to the New York Knicks and was seen rocking these blue suede hi tops with a swift white swoosh and white outer soles, gracing the court of New York City. The figure you see behind the swoosh is a silhouette of Rasheed Wallace himself, showing the right man to be repping Air Forces in the NBA. Keep your eyes on the courts to see what else Nike Air Force have in store for this season. Hopefully these drop in SA sometime soon so we can rep some NY swag.

Everybody say HI DOUG!!!

Meet "Doug" (Name changed coz we really don't know it) Now Doug is that one good friend who decides to take one for the team and walk down to the shops for a beer-run! We actually have nothing smart to say about him so just watch the video and crack up like the rest of us!

Dear Alcohol

We all have that one friend has that same talk after every party yet surprisingly, they never realise the common denominator in this equation... STOP DRINKING SO DAMN MUCH!!! Give them this bit of advice: "Try being on the other side of the camera for once, laughing at the other idiot being you!"
